The primary role of vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) in numerous bodily functions, such as energy metabolism and neurotransmitter production, is as an enzyme catalyst. It must first be transformed by the liver into its coenzyme form (P-5-P) before it can be used for this purpose. By giving B-6 in its converted form, P-5-P removes this step and increases bioavailability.
